Our MINI family is expanding again. Hot on the wheels of the stunning Coupé comes the launch of the sixth unique model in the line-up, the eagerly anticipated and all-new MINI Roadster.
This is the first open-topped two-seater in our long and successful history. The British-built car offers the opportunity for spontaneous wind-in-the-hair driving thrills backed by powerful engines and MINI’s famed ‘up for anything’ attitude.

Unique but familiar styling
The MINI Roadster’s footprint closely mirrors that of the MINI Convertible. However, the elegant roofline is more than 20 mm lower than its four-seater sibling thanks to heavily raked A-pillars, angled backwards by an extra 13 degrees over the MINI Convertible, allowing the Roadster to cut a distinctive, low-slung and visually stretched stance.
Key to the MINI Roadster’s appeal to buyers is its unique canvas roof. The tailored canvas soft-top offers robust, all-season durability with an easy opening and closing semi-automatic operation as part of the standard specification. When opened, the roof folds down flat behind the seats, keeping the car’s elegantly sweeping lines intact. And since the outer skin of the roof faces upwards, there is no need for any additional cover.
MINI enthusiasts will immediately recognise the interior of the Roadster; all the classic MINI trademark features – including the much-loved large central circular speedo, the rev counter behind the steering wheel and the toggle switches – are present in the two-seater cabin. The package includes sports seats fitted as standard in the MINI Cooper S Roadster, MINI Cooper SD Roadster and MINI John Cooper Works Roadster, which provide outstanding lateral support during cornering.
Two-seater roadsters have a tendency to lack practicality but that’s not the case with the MINI Roadster. It has a 240 litres of luggage space, plus the high-opening tailgate and low boot sill make loading cargo simplicity itself. A ski-hatch through-loading system that can also be opened from either seat provides added versatility.
Powerful and fuel-efficient engines
Power for the MINI Roadster comes from the latest generation of fuel-efficient four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Outputs range from 122 hp in the MINI Cooper Roadster to 211 hp in the highly desirable flagship MINI John Cooper Works Roadster. MINI’s performance diesel engine, the 143 hp Cooper SD launched earlier this year, is also available and the line-up is completed with the Cooper S which offers 184 hp.
Fuel economy stretches from 38.7mpg to 62.8mpg, while CO2 emissions are as low as just 118g/km on the Cooper SD. Even the MINI John Cooper Works Roadster emits only 169g/km. A full technical breakdown for each model is given below.
Classic Roadster dynamics with advanced technology
Like the MINI Coupé, the MINI Roadster is fitted with an active rear spoiler that’s integrated into the tailgate. It extends automatically as soon as the car reaches 50 mph and drops back at 37 mph, though can also be operated manually using a button in the control panel on the windscreen frame.
Electric Power Steering (EPS) with speed-sensitive assistance is standard on the MINI Roadster, generating sure-footed, predictable and precise cornering. However, a Sport button on the centre console, standard on all MINI Roadster models, allows the driver to adjust the car’s steering characteristics and accelerator responses. If the optional six-speed automatic gearbox is specified, pressing this button also shortens shift times.
MINIMALISM environmental technology as standard
All versions of the MINI Roadster come with the critically acclaimed MINIMALISM environmental technology as standard, providing exceptional powertrain efficiency. Features such as Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start/Stop, Shift Point Display and Electric Power Steering help to make efficient use of fuel with low emissions.
High standard specification and extensive range of options
The MINI Roadster’s generous list of standard equipment includes rear Park Distance Control, air conditioning and an audio system with MP3-compatible CD player, DAB radio and AUX IN connection. Safety features include front and head-thorax airbags, an extremely rigid windscreen frame and polished stainless steel roll-over bars for outstanding occupant protection.
The MINI Roadster can be enhanced in an almost unlimited number of ways. An extensive list of interior and exterior styling, convenience and technology options is available. These include a wide range of entertainment, communication and navigation systems, plus MINI Connected with web radio, Google services, RSS news feeds and in-car access to Facebook and Twitter. Also available as an option are part-leather Recaro sport seats with integrated head rests plus lateral and extended thigh support. They come embossed with a ‘John Cooper Works by Recaro’ logo.
The MINI Roadster is available in two non-metallic and six metallic paint shades. In keeping with British roadster tradition, the roof remains in black. Sport stripes, available in three colours for the bonnet, boot lid and rear apron, allow owners to add an extra personal touch.

BMW has launched the new BMW London 2012 iMagazine App for iPad and Android tablet devices to bring you exclusive content featuring the BMW London 2012 Performance Team ahead of the London 2012 Games.
As the official automotive partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, BMW and its dealers are backing over 100 British athletes across the country through the BMW London 2012 Performance Team initiative. The new iMagazine App, launched 27 November, looks to celebrate this partnership by bringing exclusive content about the athletes to your tablet device.

MINI Art Schools Competition Winner

Earlier this year Halliwell Jones Southport MINI contacted local schools looking for pupils to join in their MINI Art Competition. The challenge was for the pupils to create their own unique MINI Wrap. The response was fantastic whereby over 250 children took part from four schools.
Halliwell Jones Managing Director, Phillip Jones, took great delight in choosing the winner from the entries submitted with the overall winner being Oliver Mutch age 9 (now 10) from Churchtown Primary School in Churchtown, Southport.
The winning entry has been reproduced onto a full scale MINI and is now on show for the next three months at Halliwell Jones, Southport Road in Southport. Why not pop down to see it for yourselves.
Oliver designed the "Tiger" MINI and won a PS3. His school teacher, Gaynor Johnson-Dunn, was thrilled to be presented with a canvas print of the winning design to hang in the school. Also Oliver’s mum and dad will be driving the newly designed MINI for a week in the near future ….. so look out for them and give them a wave.

Top two best value investment cars

Recent research carried out by “This Is Money.co.uk” and “Motors.co.uk” on behalf of the Daily Mail has revealed that the top two best value investment cars are the BMW 3 Series followed by BMW 5 Series.
The result of this research research was featured in a ‘Mail Online’ article on 8 September and looked at the top five cars that held their value best since September 2010. Lee Boyce author of the piece said, “car values can plummet at an alarming rate, but this can vary a great deal across manufacturers and models.”
On the BMW 3 Series, Lee Boyce wrote: “On average, a new model cost just over £29,000 this time a year ago – and the same car is still worth £25,400. That’s just a 13 per cent drop.” He went on to say that the BMW 5 Series that cost £37,400 last year is now valued at £31,800, a 15 per cent fall.
To put these values into perspective, the Vauxhall Zafira (the car that the research found loses most value) was worth £22,000 in September 2010 and only £11,000 in September 2011 – a 50 per cent drop in value in just a year.

Halliwell Jones Warrington and Southport MINI hosted a joint ride and drive event at Haydock Racecourse on Saturday 1st October to celebrate the launch of the new MINI Coupé. As well as showcasing the new MINI Coupé we had approx 25 other MINI models on display and available to test drive.
The day was a great success with approx 150 people attending the day and taking part in the test drives and activities we had on offer.

The North Wales police have have just taken delivery of their new BMW X5 armed response vehicle. We provided a standard vheicle so the public could get a greater understanding of the modifications requiried to satisfy this role.

A LUCKY diner found himself behind the wheel of the latest BMW Series 520d after hitting a hole-in-one with a competition set up by a Chester restaurant.
Dr Mike McNally, 66, of Chester swapped his buggy for a BMW on a recent golfing weekend thanks to the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill Chester and car dealership Halliwell Jones.
A competition took place during a busy Father’s Day sitting at the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill. Dining dads were all invited to enter the prize draw to win a BMW for a weekend of their choice.
Dr McNally was randomly selected from the hundreds of entries and decided to save his prize for a special weekend golfing with his friends at the Hill Valley Golf and Country Club inWhitchurch.
Mike says: “I was absolutely thrilled to win the BMW for the weekend. The car was a real joy to drive and I was so impressed with all the latest technology onboard”.
“I saved the car for a particular weekend as I knew all my regular golfing friends would be around. I decided I’d play a joke on them and told them it was a car I had won in a competition; they were all amazed! However, I did tell them later on it was only for the weekend.”

Halliwell Jones Golf Day

Halliwell Jones hosted another successful Annual Golf Day, this year at Hurlston Hall in Southport.
The sun shone and the teams went out one by one, after their bacon butties. 19 teams in total, took part in the day, competitions were held in three catagories, the 0-12 Handicap, 13-28 Handicap and the ladies 0-28 Handicap, the winners Lee Evason, Mike McCartain and Judith Page were all invited to play at Royal Birkdale later on in July this year.
There was also the Longest Drive competition winner George Fitzgibbon and Nearest the Pin competition winner Scott Ashall.

The BMW Cruise Bike has instant appeal. Its unique aluminium frame owes its distinctive design to hydroforming technology, using a process in which the aluminium tubes are filled with oil and shaped by extreme pressure, resulting in a light and rigid frame. All seams are smooth-welded and perfectly joined, adding to its contemporary appearance. Emphasising the BMW Cruise Bike’s laidback character, the cables for the brakes and gear system are hardly visible. In part, they even run inside the frame which is available in White, Green/Black and White/Blue.
The back pains resulting from the rider’s bent position when riding some bikes are now a thing of the past, due to the stem, with its integrated BMW logo, which can be individually adjusted to perfectly match the height of the rider. So working in conjunction with the telescopic fork, cantilever brakes and Shimano Alivio 24-speed derailleur system deep potholes, extreme gradients and racy sprints present no problems at all to its rider.

MINI WRC Update

As previously promised, here is a quick update on the MINI's World Rally Championship entry.
Although MINI will not be eligible for points throughout the 2011 World Rally Championship, the Prodrive run team has planned to enter 6 events, which will enable them to develop the MINI WRC, ready for a full season in 2012.
Kris Meeke and Dani Sordo are the drivers for 2011, and here's a quick update of how they did in their first competitive entry in 2011...the Rally d'Italia Sardegna 5th-8th May 2011.
Day one didn't start too well for Kris Meeke who went off the road due to a throttle glitch, to return on day two, due to super rally regulations, starting from 9th on the road, only to have to retire on stage 10 due to a water leak. The team decided not to restart on Sunday as they weren't quite sure to the full extent of any damage caused by the previous days problems. But Kris's team mate's story was a different one.
Dani Sordo and his co-driver Carlos Del Barrio brought their MINI John Cooper Works WRC home in 6th place, in a fantastic first competitive outing in the WRC 2011. Dani moved into 6th place quite early on in the rally and managed to keep hold of this position until the end. Aiming for a top five finish, so sixth really wasn't a bad result at all. The team had a lot of support out on the course, MINI fans everywhere, so much so that Dani said his "pen ran out of ink" he signed that many autographs.
Now onto Rally Finland on 28th July, where MINI will make their next assault on the World Rally scene.

Halliwell Jones take over Anfield

For an evening only, Halliwell Jones took over Anfield. A competition between the four Halliwell Jones Dealerships of Southport, Chester, Warrington and North Wales along with teams from BMW Head Office at Bracknall and Thorn enabled the guys to have an eleven a side, ten minutes each way knock out competition on the hallowed turf of Liverpool FC, at their home ground Anfield. The guys were able to get ready in the team changing rooms, use the famous "boot room" as a tactical discussion room, and they even got to touch the famous Liver Birds sign as they ran from the tunnel onto the pitch.
The evening was an outstanding success, with family and friends of the team players able to take a seat in the stands and the directors box to watch the matches. The final between our Southport Dealership and a team from BMW was followed by a presentation with the players receiving various momentos from the event.

MINI Protect offers Shortfall & Tyre insurance, designed especially for MINI drivers. With a choice of cover levels and a range of options available, you can tailor your protection to your individual needs.
MINI Shortfall
Protects you from losing out financially, in the event that your car is written off or stolen.
What would you do if your MINI was written off, for example, due to fire, theft or a road traffic accident? In these circumstances you often end up being worse off financially, because your motor insurer is unlikely to give you back the price you paid for your car.
Also, if you bought your car using finance, your insurance company pay out may not be enough to cover the balance you owe the finance company. In these difficult situations, MINI Shortfall offers you protection against losing out financially.
How does MINI Shortfall work?
MINI Shortfall pays the difference, up to the level of cover you choose, between;
Your comprehensive motor insurance settlement figure and the vehicle invoice price.

Halliwell Jones Group are pleased to introduce two BMW Protect products available to customers who have purchased either a new or used vehicle.
BMW Protect offers Shortfall & Tyre insurance, designed especially for BMW drivers. With a choice of cover levels and a range of options available, you can tailor your protection to your individual needs.
BMW Shortfall
Protects you from losing out financially, in the event, that your car is written off or stolen.
What would you do if your BMW was written off, for example, due to fire, theft or a road traffic accident? In these circumstances you often end up being worse off financially, because your motor insurer is unlikely to give you back the price you paid for your car.
Also, if you bought your car using finance, your insurance company pay out may not be enough to cover the balance you owe the finance company. In these difficult situations, BMW Shortfall offers you protection against losing out financially.
How does BMW Shortfall work?
BMW Shortfall pays the difference, up to the level of cover you choose, between;
Your comprehensive motor insurance settlement figure and the vehicle invoice price.
Or
Your comprehensive motor insurance settlement figure and the outstanding finance amount.
Benefits of BMW Shortfall:
Immediate cover for new and used cars, with no mileage limit.
You can tailor the level of cover to suit your needs.
Cover levels of £10,000, £15,000, £20,000 and £30,000 are available, up to a maximum of 100% of the original invoice price of your car.
We provide cover for 2, 3 or 4 years, giving you the flexibility to decide.
You can pay for your policy either in one lump sum payment or 12 monthly instalments, at no extra cost.
If your car is written off or stolen in the first 12 months and you make a claim under the “new for old” replacement car benefit of your motor insurance policy, the remaining term of your Shortfall policy can be transferred to your new car. We will also pay up to £500 towards your motor insurance excess. After the first 12 months of cover this amount reduces to £250.
The invoice price can include up to £2,000 of dealer fitted options.

Helps towards the unexpected cost of repairing or replacing tyres, if they are damaged, following a puncture, accidental or malicious damage.

Even the most careful driver can sustain damage to their tyres, whether from unexpected road defects or cuts and tears caused by sharp objects.
If your tyres are damaged, either accidentally or by a malicious act, BMW Tyre Insurance can help towards the unexpected cost of repair or replacement, regardless of your annual mileage.

It will pay towards the repair or replacement costs of tyres damaged either by puncture, accidentally or by a malicious act.
Immediate cover for BMW cars less than 7 years old with less than 80,000 miles at point of purchase.
We can provide cover for 1,2 or 3 years, allowing you to choose how long you would like cover for.

Up to 5 tyres can be repaired or replaced during the period of cover.

It allows you to make an emergency SOS call or connect with information on services and facilities near to your location at the touch of a button.
Immediate assistance in an emergency; To ensure you receive help quickly in an emergency, BMW Emergency SOS links you directly to a 999 call centre. Once you’ve registered your details if you press the emergency SOS button you will be connected to an emergency call centre operator. The air conditioning system in your BMW/ MINI works hard all year round to maintain a comfortable temperature for you and your passengers, while filtering out pollen and dust and minimising condensation. Continuous use actually helps to keep your air conditioning working more efficiently, but it should be maintained periodically as with any other vital component.
Taking action for cleaner air.
By passing air from outside through the micro-filter, your BMW/MINI’s air conditioning system removes 80% of the particles and deposits from traffic fumes. An evaporator assists in regulating the air temperature before it is circulated throughout your vehicle to ensure you’re always sitting comfortably.
Maintaining excellence.
Continuous use of your air conditioning helps prevent the build-up of mould and microbes inside the micro-filter. It also stops seals from becoming brittle, which can cause the refrigerant to leak. However, to keep your system operating at peak efficiency and avoid musty smells, the micro-filters should be maintained at regular intervals and the correct level of refrigerant gas should be checked and replaced.

We offer two levels of maintenance to ensure that your air conditioning remains in optimum condition.
Choose a Refresh if there are musty odours when you first switch on the engine, or when you adjust your air conditioning or temperature settings.
If your air conditioning takes too long to reach the temperature you want, or if it will not reach it at all, choose a Re-gas.

The MINI is due to make it’s come back this year in the World Rally Championship (WRC). With Britain’s very own Kris Meeke at the wheel along with Dani Sordo. The car has been produced in conjunction with BMW and Prodrive (based in Oxfordshire in the UK) and is being rigorously tested as we speak, and is hoping to be introduced onto the World Rally Scene for the Rally d’Italia Sardegna (5-8 May)
A recent outing even had MINI Rally legend Paddy Hopkirk as a passenger in the new MINI Countryman, who stated “it is great to see it all being revived”.
The MINI Countryman is still in its development stage, but with Prodrive’s history previously working with British World Rally Superstars Richard Burns and Colin McCrae, the MINI is surely going to be a huge success. What can be covered......
Key Protection:based on a very simple idea that keys are lost or stolen every year and the chance of return of these keys to the owner is less than 2%. What is covered;
- the cost of replacing locks/keys, including fitting, if the keys to your vehicle/home or normal place of work are stolen or accidentally lost with any detals of your vehcile registration number or home address.
- If entry cannot be gained to the vehicle, both you and your vehicle will be recovered to your home address or your nearest dealer.
- The cost of a hire-car, or other reasonable transportation charges, for a maximum of 3 days subject to prior approval.
- A repairer to gain entry to your home and make secure the point of entry.
Typical repair costs - Re-coded key - £140
Smart Repairs: Smart Repair Insurance provide a small body repair system that will keep your vehicle in showroom condition without compromising your no claims bonus and will ensure your vehicle remains in perfect condition - free from chips, minor dents, light scratches and scuffs.
Typical costs for this are; Dent repair - £45, Scratch - £79 & Paint chip - £89
Smart Repair will cover your Vehicle for damage caused by everyday motoring, enabling you to claim up to £3000 in total.
Alloy Wheels: This will cover dents, scuffs and scratches to alloy wheels, enabling claims of up to £1000 in total.
A specialist repairer will carry out repairs to their best endeavour, with a maximum of £100 per wheel and no policy excess to pay.
Tyre Insurance: Tyre Insurance will protect your tyres in the event of sustaining damage to any of the tyres fitted to the vehicle at the inception of the cover, either accidental or malicious. Providing the tread is above 2mm at the time of claim.
If the tyre cannot be repaired it will be replaced with a new tyre of the same or similar make and specification. Up to 5 claims on any tyre during the policy term.
An interesting fact to bare in mind for this is that potholes cost Britain's drivers £2.8 billion in repairs each year.
Value GAP: If your vehicle is lost or stolen or declared an insurance write off following fire, theft or accident, Return to Value will pay the difference between the insurer's valuation and whichever the greater is of the purchase price of the vehicle, or the finance settlement figure. Available in two, three or four year periods.
A great way to keep those pennies secure as your car is depreciating every second and insurers only pay the depreciated value at the time of the claim, not the original purchase price.
