WHAT CAR 2016 AWARDS

BEST LARGE EXECUTIVE COMPANY CAR HAS BEEN WON BY THE BMW 520D.

The What Car? Car of the Year 2016 award for Best Large Executive Car has been won by the BMW 520d. The winner in the 'Best Large Excutive Car Below £35,0000 category and judged the winner overall in the Large Executive Car category, the judges were impressed by its ride comfort, dynamic driving and low running costs. ‘Few cars have a repertoire as rounded as the 520d; it’s great value and represents the best of the large executive class,' said the judges. Cars in this sector typically spend a lot of time on the motorway, so as well as minimal road and wind noise, the car must keep the driver happy after many hours of driving - the BMW 520d excelled in this area.

Tested with automatic transmission and in SE guise, the BMW 520d was especially praised for its responsiveness, with its precise steering impressing the judges. The interior was another key point, with the BMW’s materials being described as ‘solid and luxurious’. The BMW 5 Series comes with leather upholstery as standard across the range, as well as front and rear park distance control, xenon headlights with headlight wash, and an excellent in-car entertainment system, controlled intuatively via the iDrive interface and a 6.5" colour screen.

The BMW’s low running costs also played a big part in its victory. The BMW 5 Series, whether diesel or petrol engined, features BMW TwinPower Turbo technology to guarantee the highest possible efficiency. This results in lower fuel consumption and emissions, making it an obvious choice for a company car. For information about running the BMW 5 Series as a company car, click here.
