One of the most anticipated award ceremonies in the UK automotive calendar is the annual WhatCar? Awards. This year marks the 43rd iteration of the event which BMW has previously received recognition for models such as the 3 Series and 5 Series models. BMW continued the success of previous years collecting a number of awards across the range of BMW models.
Discover latest Business offersThe BMW 3 series is one of the most iconic models in the BMW line-up and popular with both business drivers and families. With more people shifting to electrified powertrains the 330e plug-in hybrid has become a popular choice in the 3 series range. This has been recognised by WhatCar? Who have awarded it the highly coveted “executive car of the year” award.
The new BMW 4 Series divided the opinion of some when it launched last year with most of the conversation focusing on the bold new design language. Despite this the 4 Series still sets the benchmark of what makes a world-class sports Coupé. This has now been certified with WhatCar? awarding the new 4 Series with Coupé of the year and best performance car for value, which is no mean feat given the strong competition within the category.
The BMW 5 series has been a long-time favourite of WhatCar? And has gained numerous accolades in previous years. One such award is the title of luxury car of the year which the 5 series has won once again. As with the 3 Series it was the 530e plug-in hybrid that specifically won the title further highlighting the growing popularity and capable nature of the BMW hybrid powertrains.
The BMW X range also featured prominently in the list of awards with the BMW X5 xDrive 45e winning best luxury SUV whilst the X6 xDrive 30d won Coupé SUV of the Year. The largest model in the range the X7 took home best Luxury SUV for families. The smaller X3 won best sports SUV for families. The future of the BMW X range has gained recognition alongside its combustion engine counterparts with the iX3 winning best large electric SUV.
The vast number of accolades awarded at this year’s WhatCar? span the entire model range. This demonstrates that in 2021 BMW still has a compelling offering for consumers who are looking for the very best driving experience. The focus on future technologies such as PHEV and fully electric models also highlights that as our driving behaviours shift, the familiar BMW experience remain.
