What to do straight after an accident.
Make it safe
Switch on your hazard lights and, if you can, move to a safe spot. Call 999 if anyone is hurt or the road is blocked.
Check for warning signs
If your BYD shows a high-voltage or battery warning, or you notice smoke or an unusual smell, don't drive it. Keep everyone clear and call 999.
Swap details.
Exchange names, addresses, insurance details and registrations with anyone involved. If you can't, report the accident to the police within 24 hours.
Take photos
Capture the damage, the scene, road markings and the other vehicles, but only when it's safe.
Call your insurer, then call us.
Let your insurer know you'd like a BYD-approved repair, and we'll help with the rest.
It's your car, so it's your choice
Your insurer may suggest a repairer, but in most cases you can ask for your BYD to go somewhere else. Choosing a BYD-approved repair means your car is handled by people who know it inside out, which helps protect its warranty and its value when you come to sell. Not sure what your policy allows? Ask your insurer, or give us a call and we'll explain your options.
