Barry Burrell Defends BMW F 900 R Cup Title
Barry Burrell has made history by becoming the first rider to successfully defend the BMW F 900 R Cup championship, following his 2025 title win with another championship victory in 2026.
Barry Burrell has done it again! The 2025 champion secured his second consecutive BMW F 900 R Cup title at Brands Hatch on Sunday 18 October, bringing an incredible season to a close with another championship-winning performance.
The achievement is all the more remarkable given that Barry hadn't initially planned to contest the championship this year. Instead, he returned at Round Two as a wildcard, and his performances soon put a second title within reach.
A partnership that goes beyond the championship
2026 marks the third year of Halliwell Jones' partnership with Barry. While the focus of that support this season has also included the North West 200 and the Isle of Man TT, Barry's successful wildcard return to the F 900 R Cup presented an opportunity that was too good to miss.
With a second championship now in sight, Halliwell Jones was keen to support Barry for the remainder of the season and see what he could achieve.
It proved to be a winning combination. Barry went on to record four Main Race victories, building on his wildcard success to secure the championship at Brands Hatch and make history as the first rider to defend the title.
A champion once again
Heading into the final round at Brands Hatch, Barry was in a strong position in the championship standings. A third-place finish in the decisive race confirmed the title, bringing his championship-winning campaign to a close with 291 points.
His achievement makes him the first rider to successfully defend the BMW F 900 R Cup title, securing back-to-back championships in 2025 and 2026.
