The first-ever BMW iX4 is here
BMW's new Sports Activity Coupé pairs a sleek, sloping silhouette with Neue Klasse technology and up to 514 miles of range¹. It is available to order now at Halliwell Jones BMW, priced from £60,170 OTR.
The BMW iX4 is the latest model to join the Neue Klasse family, following the BMW iX3. It takes the same next-generation technology and wraps it in a lower, sportier coupé shape. BMW describes it as one of the most emotional additions to its line-up so far.
Two versions are available to order now: the BMW iX4 40 xDrive and BMW iX4 50 xDrive. A 612hp BMW iX4 M60 xDrive will join the range in spring 2027. First UK customer deliveries begin on 6 March 2027.
Design.
The iX4 is built around a long wheelbase, short overhangs, muscular wheel arches and a sloping roofline. Up front, the upright Neue Klasse face merges the BMW kidneys and headlights into one design unit. On M Sport Pro and M60 xDrive models, BMW Iconic Glow lights it up as standard.
Clean lines and smart aerodynamics, including active air flap control, help it achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.23. A panoramic glass roof is standard, with hidden seals for a seamless finish between glass and body.
At the rear, a pronounced spoiler houses the brake light and slim L-shaped taillights emphasise the wide stance. The BMW roundel sits in a sculpted recess between the lights, mirroring its position at the front.
The iX4 M60 xDrive goes further, with M Yellow headlights² inspired by BMW's GT racing cars, a dedicated M rear spoiler that adds downforce, a gloss black rear diffuser and mirror caps, and M Shadowline trim for the kidneys.
Nine paint finishes are available at launch, including Eucalyptus Green, Fire Red and Polarized Grey. Three Frozen finishes (Pure Red, Ocean Wave Blue and Space Silver) arrive in March 2027, with the BMW Individual paint catalogue to follow.
Interior and practicality.
Inside, a driver-focused cockpit meets the clean, pared-back Neue Klasse design. Premium materials line the instrument panel, while large windows and the panoramic roof with climate-comfort glazing keep the cabin light and airy.
The long wheelbase gives generous legroom in both rows. The battery's cell-to-pack design sits low, preserving rear headroom beneath the sloping roofline.
The boot holds 490 litres, rising to 1,600 litres with the 40:20:40 split rear seats folded. There is a further 58 litres of storage under the bonnet.
Range, charging and performance
Every iX4 uses BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology, delivering around 30 per cent more range and 30 per cent faster charging than the previous generation. Dual motors give intelligent all-wheel drive across the range.
| Model | Power (hp) | 0-62mph (secs) | Top speed (mph) | WLTP range¹ (miles) | Usable battery (kWh) | Max DC charging (kW) | Added in 10 mins⁴ (miles) | Price (OTR) from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BMW iX4 40 xDrive M Sport | 374 | 5.6 | 124 | 396 | 82.6 | 300 | 187 | £60,170 |
| BMW iX4 50 xDrive M Sport | 469 | 4.9 | 130 | 514 | 108.7 | 400 | 240 | £66,075 |
| BMW iX4 M60 xDrive | 612 | 3.9 | 149 | 483 | 108.7 | 400 | 224 | To be announced |
At a suitable 400kW rapid charger, the iX4 50 xDrive can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 21 minutes. All versions are prepared for bidirectional charging.
On the road, four high-performance computers run the car's key systems, with up to 20 times the processing power of previous BMWs. At their centre is the Heart of Joy, which manages the drive system, braking, energy recovery and steering up to ten times faster than before. In everyday driving, the iX4 can stop using regenerative braking alone in 98 per cent of cases.
A low centre of gravity, near-perfect weight distribution and model-specific suspension tuning give sharp steering and assured comfort. The M60 xDrive adds M Adaptive Suspension, an electronically controlled M Sport differential and dedicated M Sport and M Sport Plus modes.
Technology and driver assistance
BMW Panoramic iDrive puts the right information in the right place, so drivers can keep their eyes on the road. It brings together four elements:
• BMW Panoramic Vision, displayed across the full width of the windscreen
• The optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display
• A 17.9-inch free-cut Central Display
• A new multifunction steering wheel with discreet, intuitive controls
It runs on BMW Operating System X. The self-learning BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, enhanced with Amazon Alexa+ technology, understands natural speech. BMW Digital Premium is included as standard for four years³, adding extended navigation and entertainment, plus the Security Assistant with alerts and remote vehicle views in the My BMW App.
Driving Assistant Plus with BMW Symbiotic Drive is standard across the range. It manages speed, distance and lane-keeping, and lets you steer, brake or accelerate without switching it off.
The optional Motorway Assistant allows hands-free driving up to the national speed limit on approved sections of UK motorway. You can confirm an assisted lane change simply by glancing at the door mirror. The driver must stay attentive and ready to take over at all times.
The standard Parking Assistant handles semi-automated parking, while Parking Assistant Plus adds a 360-degree view. Manoeuvre Assistant can record and repeat regular manoeuvres of up to around 220 yards, such as a tight driveway. With Parking Assistant Professional, you can control selected manoeuvres from outside the car through the My BMW App, from up to around 20 feet away.
Every iX4 has the hardware for the full suite of assistance systems, so features can be added later via over-the-air updates.

Important information
All figures for output, performance, charging, energy consumption and range are provisional. Top speeds are electronically limited.
Official WLTP energy consumption (combined): BMW iX4 40 xDrive 19.1 to 15.9 kWh/62 miles (approx. 3.2 to 3.9 miles/kWh). BMW iX4 50 xDrive 19.0 to 15.7 kWh/62 miles (approx. 3.3 to 3.9 miles/kWh). BMW iX4 M60 xDrive 20.2 to 17.1 kWh/62 miles (approx. 3.1 to 3.6 miles/kWh). CO₂ emissions 0 g/km for all models.
¹ WLTP figures are for comparison purposes. Actual electric range will vary according to vehicle specification and equipment, battery state of charge and condition, driving style, route, use of in-car systems and ambient conditions.
² M Yellow lights are only activated at night with low-beam headlights.
³ BMW Digital Premium subscription included as standard for four years.
⁴ Range added after ten minutes of high-power charging determined in accordance with ISO 12906 using the WLTP cycle, assuming charging infrastructure capable of delivering the vehicle's maximum DC charging power. Actual charging performance depends on vehicle specification, battery charge level, condition and temperature, driving profile, auxiliary consumers, ambient temperature, charging settings and the power supplied by the charging point.
⁵ Secondary-material and supply-chain CO₂e figures are preliminary forecast values.
