The new BMW 5 Series Saloon plug-in hybrid variant will complete the 5 Series range in March 2017. Featuring BMW i technology, the BMW 530e iPerformance Saloon will offer a dynamic driving experience with exceptional efficiency, and all-electric mobility with zero tailpipe emissions.

The BMW 530e iPerformance Saloon benefits from rapid acceleration yet combined fuel consumption of 141.2mpg, combined electricity consumption of 9.2kWh and CO2 emissions of 46g/km. Overall system output of 252hp and combined peak torque of 420Nm allow it to sprint from 0 to 62mph in 6.2 seconds.

The BMW 530e iPerformance Saloon is now available to order with OTR prices starting at £43,985.

The BMW 530e iPerformance Saloon has a range of nearly 400 miles and can cover up to 29 miles purely on electric power. The electric motor and combustion engine direct their power to the rear wheels via the standard eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Positioning the electric motor upstream from the transmission allows the transmission’s ratios to be used in all-electric mode too. This dispenses with the need for a torque converter, so reducing the weight of the vehicle.

Thanks to the installation of the high-voltage battery pack underneath the rear seat, the BMW 530e iPerformance Saloon offers 410 litres of boot capacity and a flat load compartment floor. The battery can be charged in under five hours from a standard domestic power socket, and in under three hours from a BMW i Wallbox (3.7 kW charging capacity).

In addition to the Driving Experience Control switch, with its SPORT, COMFORT and ECO PRO settings, an eDrive button allows the driver to tailor the BMW eDrive system’s operation through three driving modes: AUTO eDRIVE, MAX eDRIVE and BATTERY CONTROL.

AUTO eDRIVE ensures that the engine and electric motor interact to optimum effect in all driving situations and allows an all-electric top speed of 56mph. MAX eDRIVE drives the vehicle on electric power alone, while BATTERY CONTROL mode lets the driver set the charge level for the high-voltage battery manually.

Bespoke exterior design elements clearly identify the BMW 530e iPerformance Saloon, including blue kidney grille slats, blue wheel hub covers, a charging socket located between the front wheel arch and the A-pillar on the driver’s side, “eDrive” emblems on the C‑pillars and a “530e” badge on the boot lid.

Illuminated sill panels on the doors bear “eDrive” lettering and the interior mirrors the sporty elegance of the exterior. The BMW 530e iPerformance Saloon comes with an eDrive button on the centre console, along with specially designed displays for both the instrument cluster in front of the driver and the central information screen.

The navigation, telephone, entertainment and vehicle functions are grouped within the standard high-resolution 10.25-inch display and have multiple control options: the iDrive Controller, touching the buttons on the display, the Intelligent Voice Assistant or via BMW gesture control.

The BMW 530e iPerformance Saloon is the latest Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) following the BMW 225xe Active Tourer, BMW 330e Saloon, BMW X5 xDrive40e BMW 740e and BMW 740Le xDrive.
