The launch of the BMW i8 and i3 marked a major milestone for BMW and gave birth to a new era of models with a focus on sustainable driving. The unveiling of the new BMW iX carries a similar level of significance for the brand. The long awaited electric SUV is the first to be designed completely from the ground up as an electric vehicle. The benefit of building a model such of this from scratch allows for better use of the available eDrive technology. The result is a significant leap forward in terms of driving capability.
The BMW iX is crafted with a number of elegant touches make that make it truly unique in both the BMW range and the electric vehicle segment. It embraces a futuristic and streamlined shape with minimal flat surfaces. The headlights and taillights are not only slender but they’re also the slimmest introduced on a series BMW. Other striking elements include the exterior mirrors, electric integrated door openers and a graphic window, which are all harmoniously integrated with the overall appearance. The kidney Grille follows a similar design language to other models that have recently joined the model line-up. In keeping with the futuristic nature of the iX it features a unique one piece design that is solid due to the lack of internal combustion engine and need for low drag efficiency.
Once inside there is no mistaking that you are driving the future. A sophisticated blend of material and technology redefine the joy of the journey. A totally re-engineered seat design feature a beautifully crafted asymmetrical diagonal aesthetic that is contrasted by additional seams. Other stylish elements include the transparent and intelligent centre console, which replaces buttons with sensors that provide haptic feedback. The iDrive Touch Controller is finished in a high-quality glass, a first for any BMW. For the driver a striking hexagonal steering wheel helps you get the best driving position possible whilst a large curved display provides clear information like never before.
The BMW iX is not only modern in appearance, the driving capabilities are equally forward thinking. Pushing new limits the Ix delivers a driving range of up to 370 miles, the furthest of any electrified BMW. Performance is not in short supply either with over 500hp on offer that effortlessly powers you from 0-62mph in less than five seconds. When it comes to charging it doesn’t matter whether you are at home or on the open road, the iX makes things simple. With a maximum of 200kW charging power available you can charge from 10% to 80% in less than 40 minutes.
